A Helpful Guide to Avoid the Burning Sensation of 1,000 Suns

Sadly for you, a quick sweep of the internet will tell you that almost all other brands offer an unpleasant burning sensation. Somewhere along the way, yeast infection treatments must have evolved into a stronger formula to effectively combat the modern-day yeast infection.

I theorize this because I clearly remember yeast infection treatment NOT scorching my insides. And so do these 100+ women who reviewed Monistat. (If you want a good laugh or have opened this article too late, I invite you to read their reviews as a sense of emotional support.)

My Personal Experience

My cheapo self purchased the off-brand version of Monistat 3-Day cream for a MILD yeast infection. Within 2-minutes of inserting the cream via an applicator, I felt my entire vagina ignite into a scorching blaze of 1,000 suns. For hours, my body involuntarily twitched as tears ran down my face.

After taking two extra-strength Tylenol pills and exhausting myself with my convulsions, I fell asleep. The next morning, while sitting upright on my couch, a less mild burning sensation started back up in my nether regions — gravity caused the cream to leak out of me! I slapped on a panty liner and went to work.

The mild burn faded within the hour. My vagina no longer itched. But, then again, my vaginal wall may have become numb from the overstimulation…

I dreaded my 2nd dose, but I didn’t have a doctor to partner with over the weekend. I spent hours collecting tips off the internet and tried them all at once…and they worked! Both my 2nd and 3rd dose were painless* with only the slightest tingling sensation similar to an enzyme face mask.

Important Notes

  • Prescription anti-fungal pills exist. Consult with your doctor.
  • Once you start treatment, you cannot stop, or else you run the risk of developing a superbug.
  • The 1-day overnight option will burn the most because it contains the highest concentration of active ingredients.
  • The first dose will be the most painful.
  • Pain does not imply that a drug “is working” or that you have a “much more severe” yeast infection like people on the internet suggest. Don’t read those comments as facts. Talk to a medical professional.

The Best Nightly Routine to Avoid the Burn

The Key: You need to keep the yeast infection cream in your vagina and not let it drip down to your highly sensitive labia.

  • Take 1–2 Tylenol pills 30 minutes prior to bedtime. Be sure to drink excess water to flush your kidneys…but also, don’t overdo or you will have to pee in the night and possibly feel the burn.
  • OPTIONAL: Apply vaginal anti-itch or relief cream to your labia. (I wouldn’t use the cream that comes inside the box of your current treatment kit. I would use a cream from a few years ago like I did, or opt for a brand that has natural, soothing ingredients.)
  • Decorate your nightstand with your nighttime essentials including the anti-itch/relief cream and a yeast infection cream-filled applicator. Do this beforehand because once you lie down, you are stuck there!
  • Add lots of pillows to your bed. I suggest bed pillows due to their size, softness, and foldability.
  • Have a vaginal sanitary wipe available. This should only be used if you feel the cream seep onto your labia. Using the wipe will help, but you cannot completely stop the burn once it has started.
  • Get into bed and use your feet to thrust your pelvis toward the ceiling. (Do this a few times if you want a glute workout.) You will now insert the cream at this angle because gravity will sink the cream downward toward your cervix.
  • Add pillows underneath your bottom until you are comfortable, stable, and tilted. You want a solid mound of pillows underneath you, so you don’t fall through or roll off them in the night.

And BAM! There is my how-to guide on trying to make the process as painless as possible. If you do experience pain, I’m unsure what to tell you… I tried my best…
